Young Angler wins Big Crappie Hunt and new boat!
High School eighth grader, Trent Bice, may not be the best basketball or football player for his school's team, but he is the top crappie fisherman in Alabama.
The 14-year-old caught a 4.19 super slab crappie near the dam at Neely Henry to win the Mercury/Triton/MotorGuide Big Crappie, Big Spotted Bass Hunt and in doing so won a new Triton TC17 with Mercury motor rig. The 17 foot Triton Aluminum Boat is worth more than $15,000. Bice got another $500 from Buck's Island Marine of Southside for entering the tournament at their store.
The Big Crappie/Big Spotted Bass Hunt began Feb. 15 and ran through April 6. Almost 1,700 anglers participated with the top eight winning about $27,000 in cash and prizes. The event was sponsored by Mercury Marine, Triton Boats, Motor Guide and the Alabama Department of Tourism.
The entry fee for the 50-day long event was $10 for adults and $5 for youth under license age. Visit the website wwwbigcrappiehunt.com for complete standings.
